Unsure about how we work? We have gathered the most common questions for your convenience.
Production work often starts with a creative brief and a few headline deal points, but that leaves room for disagreement once filming, editing, approvals or delivery start moving. A production services agreement can spell out what is being produced, when sign-off is needed, how many revisions are included, who owns the final material and what usage rights the client receives. It can also deal with extra work, delays and cancellation scenarios. Those points matter because disputes in production usually come from scope creep, unclear approval chains or assumptions about ownership rather than from the original idea itself.
The key clauses usually depend on how the production is being commissioned, but common pressure points include the services description, deliverables, production timetable, fee structure, payment triggers, approval process, revision limits, ownership of raw and final materials, licence wording, credits, confidentiality, liability settings and termination rights. Some projects also need wording around third-party materials, music, locations, talent releases or handover of project files. If those issues are not dealt with clearly, the parties can end up arguing about whether the producer has finished the job or whether the client can use the material as broadly as expected.
Useful details include who the parties are, what the producer is being engaged to do, the expected deliverables, whether there are milestones, how approval is meant to work, what payment structure has been agreed and who should own the finished output. It also helps to know whether any existing footage, music, graphics or other pre-existing material is being used, and whether the client only needs limited usage rights or broader ownership. If there are platform, industry or authority requirements in the background, those can affect the wording because regulator requirements can vary.
A template may be enough for a very simple shoot with straightforward deliverables, but many production arrangements involve more moving parts than a generic form expects. For example, a template may not deal well with staged approvals, capped revision rounds, rights in raw footage, campaign-limited usage, reshoots or responsibility for third-party clearances. Those are often the issues that matter most once the project is underway. A tailored agreement is usually more useful where the production has custom deliverables, multiple contributors, layered IP rights or a client approval process that needs to be described with some precision.
Timing usually depends on how settled the commercial points are and whether there is already a draft on the table. If the deal terms are reasonably clear, the first draft or review is often completed within about 5 to 10 business days after we receive the key information and any existing documents. One round of amendments is included, which is commonly where usage wording, approval mechanics or deliverable descriptions are refined. If the matter expands into negotiations, extra agreements or ongoing support during the production, that would need separate scoping.
